Some People Are Just Sick, Sick, Sick!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1061766/Two-Jehovahs-Witnesses-murdered-13-people-mission-God-cleanse-world-sinners.html
Two twisted Jehovah's Witnesses have been arrested as suspected serial killers, accused of murdering 13 people during a nine-month killing spree in Russia.
Claiming to be on a mission from God, Vladimir Gurianov, 44, and Elvira Egorycheva 46, hacked, shot and bludgeoned their victims in a case that left even hardened Russian detectives shocked.
The pair were finally spotted in a supermarket in a suburb of the city and arrested. By then they were on nationwide search lists and their photographs had been widely circulated in the region.
When they were searched Egorycheva had a revolver, two axes, an electric-shock device and a rope in her belongings.
Another gun and a knife were found in Gurianov's jacket.
Gurianov - who locals said had 'mad eyes' - and Egorycheva first met at a Jehovah's Witnesses sect meeting 16 years ago.
When they were reunited late last year, Egorycheva allegedly told him she had a vision and they must travel to the Volga region to carry out God's wishes.
She said: "God wants us to go to Nizhniy Novgorod and cleanse the world of sinners".
A neighbour said: "They were very odd. He called her "mother" or "Princess Elena". She called him "my son, Prince Mikhail".
"Gurianov used to say they had a certain mission. No-one took them very seriously but then the killings began."
The first victim was a fortune teller Ludmila Kostina, 51, with whom they made an appointment after seeing her advert in a local papers.
A day after the first murder they went to another fortune-teller, Nina Mashtakova, 66, who they killed before stealing valuables.
One victim was killed around January 10, when Gurianov answered an advert advertising Pekingese puppies.
A 17-year-old boy, returning home, found Gurianov killing his mother, who only managed to scream: "Run, boy!"
Gurianov later boasted to detectives about one particularly brutal slaying.
He said: "I shot at the head of this woman, but she was still alive. I shot her a second time and she fell down, but just as I was digging a grave for her I realised she was still alive and just watching me. So you'll understand I had to stab her."
Also in January this year, Gurianov, a convicted rapist, and Egorycheva met a 17 year-old girl by the garage complex in the city's outskirts.
Police believe the couple stopped the girl, and Egorycheva told her: "Stop, sinner! I, Princess Elena, and my son Prince Mikhail, have been sent by God to punish you!"
Gurianov then allegedly raped the girl, killed her with a hammer and buried her next to the garage complex.
He later told investigators: "Mother explained to me that every woman killed or raped by me would become my wives in the afterlife."
They are also suspected of killing 18 year-old student Masha Maslennikova, missing since May, whose body has not been found, as well as Ludmila Kotelnikova, 45, and Elena Lomteva, 37, whose corpses were found near their holiday homes.
One detective said: "Apparently, they didn't care who became their next victim, whether it was a woman, a young girl or a child. Their only criterion was to carry out the killing in remote parts of the city where no one could help the victims."
Later police asked the pair why they killed innocent people.
Gurianov, clearly enjoying recounting his deeds, replied: "God told us to go and take the money. He said: 'Go there and take as much as you need.' So we did".
One shocked detective said: "Our hearts are bleeding.
"They seem to enjoy talking about the things they have done. They feel safe as well. What is prison to them? Even if they are sentenced to life, they'll live until old age.If ever there was a case for capital punishment, this is it.

Those are not Jehovah's Witnesses

"first met at a Jehovah's Witnesses sect meeting 16 years ago."

That does not make them Jehovah's Witnesses. That is the only mention of the faith.

I researched this article and couldn't find any evidence that either one of them was baptized or currently associated with a congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

The media in Russia are famous for putting on smear campaigns against JW's, like this one. They'll take any opportunity to malign the religion.

Hey, why would you post such a thing? Some of your subjects have been interesting but this negates any credibility you might have had.

You are slime.

From Russian website strana.ru ( http://www.strana.ru/doc.html?id=110687&cid=1)

Translation of above comment from Russian website strana.ru:

The couple, who in the past counted themselves among supporters of the "Jehovah's Witnesses", killed 13 people.

The criminal duo Elvira Egorycheva and Vladimir Gulianov related how they had been supporters of the sect between 1995 and 1998. Then it was "revealed" to them that this faith was not quite the right one. The man and woman who met in Saransk decided that they would become "orthodox christians."

Your blog is in dubious taste at the best of times, but this time you have excelled yourself.

More from strana.ru

The "Jehovah's" also held meetings in a cinema. A few years ago Elvira noticed that one of the religious leaders was hiding food in a box and eating it. Subsequently, the local newspaper published a "refutation" from Elvira, saying that she was disappointed with this religion and was leaving its ranks.

Anonymous said...

From earlier posts, it is interesting to look at the sequence of events:

First, Elvira let herself become disillusioned and critical about someone in the congregation and started complaining.

Then, she publicly disassociated herself from Jehovah's organization, using the media to air her grievances.

Finally, she threw off all moral sense and became obsessed with devoting countless hours to hateful and destructive pursuits. (I won't use the word 'slime'!)

GBL has really shot himself in the foot with this one.

Hey, all you critics of this current post by LGB, did you notice he stated his newspaper reference from which he copied and pasted to share on his blog. He didn't come up with it himself!!!
Also, it is not new that some JW's have gone crazy and killed, this happens, so they are not really shooting their foot with this post.
JW's have a high rate of suicide, maybe they should check into and report some of that reality for you all to argue.

Hey, all you critics of this current post by LGB, did you notice he stated his newspaper reference from which he copied and pasted to share on his blog. He didn't come up with it himself!!!

No, he copied it out of the Daily Mail, which, while not exactly the gutter press, is not noted for its objectivity and reliability.

The only other British newspaper to have carried the story appears to be the Daily Mirror, again definitely not at the quality end of the market. Curiously, the article is by the same journalist, Will Stewart.

How do you account for the Russian press reports that state that the woman in question left Jehovah's Witnesses 10 years ago, publicly renouncing her membership in a newspaper?

Also, it is not new that some JW's have gone crazy and killed, this happens, so they are not really shooting their foot with this post.

Granted that could happen to a Witness just as it could happen to any other believer or nonbeliever. But if someone goes crazy and kills people, whatever his religion, is it really fair to try and make his church "guilty by association"? I mean it's not as if they told him to do it, is it?

If the article were to say "black" instead of "Jehovah's Witness" it would unquestionably be considered racist.

As it is, using this type of thing in religious polemics smacks of extreme bigotry. That would be so even if the person in question had been a Jehovah's Witness, but even more so considering that the perpetrators were not actually Witnesses.

JW's have a high rate of suicide, maybe they should check into and report some of that reality for you all to argue.

I challenge you to prove that by referring to a reliable, scientific study. Otherwise, it can only be construed as malicious slander.

I sincerely doubt that these two were ever Jehovah's Witnesses. They may have at some time in the past had some association with the Witnesses but you know a lot of what they said is NOT what JW's believe.

SIDE NOTE: The Russian government has shown itself not to be above using a matter like this to get at its enemies--and they DO see JW's as enemies. [Google Russia and Moscow & Jehovah's Witnesses for more data.]

Studies show that there is a considerable amount of mental illness among Jehovah's Witnesses and more than a few have committed suicide [Google this]believing they could never be good enough for God, so their thinking (like the two grade-school boys who planned their own deaths and killed each other) goes "better to be dead and wait for the resurrection than get horribly destroyed at Armageddon".

There is some debate as to whether the high rate of mental illness amoung Jehovah Witnesses [Google this too], is caused by the Watchtower's heavy demands for perforance and the lack of compassion from the congregations when a member is seen to fall short of Watchtower expectations either by being avoided as a "bad association" or by being totally ostricized (disfellowshiped) from the 'righteous' ones.

It is also quite possible that those with mental and emotional problems are attracted to the Watchtower's totalitarian religion as a way to 'medicate' for their out-of-control lives.

Why is it difficult for active JWs to understand why ex-members would be bitter?

If you discovered your bank was stealing your money, would you just go to another bank and never mention it to anyone? Of course not. You would warn everyone you know not to do business with that bank.

The JW religion teaches its people that "apostates" are bitter and have nothing positive to say.

Unfortunately, this is not the central issue. The central issue is that JWs cannot refute the countless Scriptural errors pointed out by ex-member and even non-members, with a basic understanding of Christianity.

Further, the shunning aspect of the JW religion is the icing on the cake. As "J" so excellently expresses earlier, friendships are held hostage by the JW religious leadership. When something leaves the JWs to join another religion, the leadership insists that JWs treat that person as worse than dead.

Further, I believe it is incredibly "positive" that I'm trying to prevent anyone from joining what I have personally found to be a destructive, high-control apocalyptic millenarian sect.

Why would I keep my mouth shut and disappear into the woodwork? Just as JWs feel they are trying to "save" people they meet in the ministry, I'm trying to "save" people by warning them of the dangers of the JW religion.

I've already helped two people to leave. One was baptized, the other was an unbaptized publisher. I've personally seen the fruits of my labor. It is thrilling!

Only the "Anointed Class" are allowed to partake of the wine and bread at the annual Memorial celebration in every Kingdom Hall around the world. At last count there were over 8,000 partakers. That means there are 8,000 plus "anointed" scattered throughout the congregations. It's likely there may be one or two known to you.

So you're likely to know the answer to these questions:

"If THESE anointed ones hear from Jehovah do we listen to them? Does the Society ask them for insights? When did I last ask them anything?

The 12 to 18 men (unknown and unnable to most Jehovah's Witnesses who happen to live in a communeat the Watchtower's headquarters in Brooklyn, NY) who make up the voting members of Governing Body claim to be

"Jehovah's ONLY channel of communication"

Meaning

(1) they not only hear from Jehovah, but

(2) speak for Him and

(3) Jehovah does not speak to any others -- like 8,000 plus anointed living amoung the congregations - and certainly not you.

Hmmm.

No, I do not. However, much was ripped right from the Watchtower CD Library.
Even with the material I supplied to my family, I strongly encouraged them to do their own research. Many of the topics have been brought up here at this website and others. Do research on:

1. (1914) Generation
2. Blood Transfusions
3. Organ Transplants
4. Rape
5. Armageddon
6. Baptismal Questions

The Watchtower and Awake! magazines along with other publications including the Kingdom Ministry supplies an abundance of information which shows the contradiction of teachings and the flip-flopping of doctrine.

Interesting how many JW's just love to JUDGE others. They judge their own (why aren't you pioneering? etc.) and those who left. They buy into that line from the leaders that all those who left have nothing but anger and bitterness in their hearts.

I'm not surprised to see someone trying to judge Kimmy Jo who has added so much value to the discussions on this web-blog.

Look, I think it is apparent from the comments that the majority leave JW's because they find out the REAL TRUTH of this religion (that you will not hear in any meeting).

So what? The point the critics are making is that it has nothing to do with Jehovah's Witnesses as their actions are not something taught to JWs. So what is the point?

" He didn't come up with it himself!!!"

But the newspapers did and ones who repeat libel are just as guilty of libel as if they did make it up.

"Also, it is not new that some JW's have gone crazy and killed, this happens, so they are not really shooting their foot with this post."

Except that they are not JWs.

"JW's have a high rate of suicide, maybe they should check into and report some of that reality for you all to argue."

And that is not a teaching of the religion either, that is caused by the pressures of the world.

Because exCatholics, baptists, Methodist, atheists, who become JWs are not bitter toward their former religion, they are happy that they have the true religion.

Exjws are bitter because they lost Jehovah's spirit.

"The JW religion teaches its people that "apostates" are bitter and have nothing positive to say."

First, I would like to apologize for calling you stupid. I was wrong.

As far as "one example" of an error, I can provide countless examples. Indeed, right here, we have done that very thing. You refuse to acknowledge anything.

So, FIRST, you must agree to acknowledge an error by your religion, if we point one out. If you are unwilling to concede an error, I'm wasting my time.

I will give you one, if you will agree to admit one, when it's shown to you.

Will you agree to this? Or, will you continue to JUSTIFY, and MAKE EXCUSES for the indefensible?

JWs will continue to be the butt of many jokes. As they are an odd group, they will always be brought up in the news, even if the story is unrelated to their religion.

When I was a JW, this annoyed me. Now that I'm trying to get people out of the religion, it probably helps me to have an unfair media.

If it were not for the destructive aspects of the religion, they wouldn't get so much negative press.

Scientology is getting the same negative press, as many people are realizing how destructive they are.

If a Methodist robs a bank, it's not news. If a JW or Scientologist robs a bank - it's news.

JWs have set themselves up as 'special', 'different', 'spotless', 'the only true 'religion'. As such, they will get attention in the news, even if they don't want it.

Conveniently, the congregation elders can just disfellowship anyone they want. So, when the media contacts the headquarters, they can say: "That person is no longer a JW."

True, but they may have very well been a JW when the crime occurred. (I'm not referring to this particular news story.)

I did Google it and I found no actual studies. All I found were web pages saying that there are studies, and linking to further web pages that say that these studies exist.

Curiously, though, I didn't find the studies themselves.

What studies are they? Who carried them out? Who commissioned them? What was the methodology? What scientific journals were they published in?

When we have that information then we can talk about it.

In the meantime, I think it's in pretty bad taste to use the mentally ill and suicidal in a mudslinging effort.

But then, if you will use the criminally insane, why not?

Well I suppose you would like it if it supports what you want to believe. But is there any reliable scientific research that depression somehow correlates with religious affiliation? If so, where is it? Let's read it and discuss it. I strongly suspect that there are no such studies and I believe that the reason for that is that Witnesses are no more prone to depression than anyone else.

I'm not against these drugs. It just seems odd for the 'happiest people on earth'.

Does it seem odd to you that Jehovah's Witnesses get asthma, backache or chicken pox as well? I see no credible reason why anyone's religious beliefs should prevent any physical or mental ailment. Depression can have biological causes and even when the causes are psychological, it trivializes the problem to assert that it exists because of religious belief (or, of course, that it can be avoided by joining a particular religion).

My apostate friend's JW wife once told him: "I honestly don't think ANY non-JW couple is truly happy."

That is not mind-control; that is stupidity. If she really did say something like that, then not many Witnesses would agree with her.

Come to think of it, Awake! magazine wouldn't agree with her either. As long ago as 1978, it acknowledged:

"But isn’t it true that there are happy marriages in which neither partner uses the Bible as a guide, and neither may even believe in God?’ That, too, is the case. "
