...and doctors used to think that working on a corpse and then delivering a baby without washing hands in between was a good idea. times change. stop living in the past.

hudson carl, you are missing the point entirely. The doctor, the corpse nor the baby in your illustration were guided by Jehovah's spirit. If they were they might have seen the folly of their unsanitary ways. However, Jehovah's Witnesses claim that they are directed, or channel, the True God Jehovah. Unfortunately it seems that they are not listening too closely because most of the things he tells them is wrong. That is why the constant flip flops and massive corrections to doctrine. Times change indeed, but in the Watchtower organization it's the same old, same old.

if 'they are not listening too closely', then you can't say 'most of the things he tells them is wrong'. instead, you must say, 'they got it wrong because they weren't listening too closely', and that would be closer to the truth. and so what if they got it wrong. they made the corrections. they may STILL be wrong, but like peter said to jesus, 'where else are we to go?' i'm willing to wait it out.

hudsoncarl, you need to read your Bible. The question was not "where" are we to go. The question is "to whom". We need to look to Jesus only for our salvation and not a man designed totalitarian religion that teaches that our salvation depends on obedience to its organization.

you're splitting hairs. and salvation does NOT depend upon allegiance to a man-made organization.

hudsoncarl, that is not splitting hairs. The question begs an answer and there is a difference if you are looking "where" to go (i.e., an organization)as opposed ("to whom. Of course you are correct that our salvation does not lie with allegiance to any organizatio. However, the Watchtower organization teaches that your salvation lies in your allegiance to it. For example:

"Is there any cause for us to lose faith in Jehovah's visible organization because of mounting difficulties in this world? Those who believe that Jehovah will never desert his faithful witnesses answer, "Absolutely not!" In demonstration of such faith, we will keep on sticking to it and working with it without slacking the hand. Our unwavering faith will be rewarded with victory and the crown of life!" - The Watchtower, March 1, 1979 p. 18

"Any person who wants to survive into God's righteous new order urgently needs to come into a right relationship with Jehovah and His earthly organization now." - The Watchtower, November 15, 1981 pp. 16, 17 (emphasis in original)

"... come to Jehovah's organization for salvation ..." - The Watchtower, November 15, 1981 p. 21

"A third requirement is that we be associated with God's channel, his organization. God has always used an organization. ... To receive everlasting life in the earthly Paradise we must identify that organization and serve God as part of it." - The Watchtower, February 15, 1983 p. 12 (Italics in original, boldface emphasis mine.)

"identifying themselves with Jehovah's organization is essential to their salvation." - Our kingdom Ministry, November. 1990 p. 1
